Measuring Histories: The Jumping Jellybean Travelers
This project was inspired by the amount of roadtrips my single mom took my three younger sisters and I after the passing of my dad. The first roadtrip that I remember is driving to a cabin in the mountains that one of my mom's friends let us stay in. Even though we didn't have our dad with us this time, we had an incredible time trekking in the snow, cooking mini pizzas at home, and doing puzzles. I am so incredibly appreciative to my mom for bravely taking us on these adventures with such a selfless attitude. Taking four little girls on a roadtrip must not have been easy. What comes next after a horrible death? My mom showed me that it can be adventure. After a roadtrip to Yosemite, my sisters and I hopped out of the car for a stretch break, looking around at the majestic mountains. I remember we were snacking on a box of jellybeans, and I announced, "We are the jumping jellybean travelers!" My choice of jellybeans as a material for this project is a fun way to express this new nickname and the joy of traveling together, more closely knit than ever.
